Frankly, I do not get the idea of anorexia. I have had multiple friends that have been bitten by the so-called anorexia bug and they seem to be well on the way of giving up everything just to lose weight. Before we move on to other topics, let us first talk about anorexia itself. What is anorexia? Why do people do it? What are their reasons? And what can we do to help them? And lastly, what exactly is pro-anorexia? In any case, as I’m sure you already know, if the person does not wish for help, even if you move mountains or create various miracles, it will just be a waste of time as they won’t give it up. Okay, now that I’ve already given you that reminder, let us start with our discussion.
What is anorexia? Anorexia, by itself, is the decreased impression of appetite. You do not feel any lingering sense of hunger in your system, at all. Now, this is normal if you’ve already had your food intake or if it is within the estimated time of four or five hours after you last meal. Sometimes, people even end up forgetting to eat when working or stressed. This is considerably normal too, although not exactly a good thing. Stressing or busying your mind with work until you forget to eat is just basically just destroying both your mind and body. Eating properly, after all, is a way to make sure the mind is healthy. Anyway, moving from that thought, there is also something called Anorexia nervosa. For most people, they find this term and anorexia interchangeable although that is not actually the case as they are quite different from each other.
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that you may be diagnosed with if showing any of the following symptoms or characteristics: uncharacteristic thinness and body distortion (imbalanced figure), obsessive fear of getting fat or gaining some weight, voluntary starvation, eating of food but purging it afterwards, excessive exercise and other indications like taking of diet pills or diuretic drugs.
Pro-anorexia is a campaign that promotes Anorexia nervosa as a lifestyle choice instead of a disorder or a problem. Most common terms that may refer to this are pro-ana, or just ana. There are two kinds of Pro Anorexia types that I’ve encountered on the Net. They are 1sites that actually promote and help you become an anorexic, or 2sites that actually give you advice and companionship on your way to becoming non-anorexic.
For the first type of Pro-anorexia sites, common articles that you may find listed there are multiple tips on crash dieting (they even include recipes), advice on how to best purge what you ate, tips and ways to hide your anorexia-nervosa tendencies from your parents, and suggested ways to ignore hunger pangs. Now, for the second type of pro-ana sites (which I’m more inclined to promote), we have programs or activities that allow us to love ourselves better, tips on how to stop yourself from your vomiting tendencies, and other helpful information that will reinforce your decision to becoming healthy in a good way.
